Perhaps one of Spain's best-known and most consumed beer brands does not originally come from Spain. San Miguel was born in 1890 in the city of Manila in the Philippines and quickly became known throughout Southeast Asia. From 1953 the brand was also sold in Spain. In 1957, however, the parent company San Miguel Corporation divested the Spanish brewery, but at that moment San Miguel as an independent Spanish beer brand was born. There are breweries in Lerida, Burgos, and Málaga.
