STROH rum has been made in Klagenfurt for many years. The company was founded by Sebastian Stroh, a German born in 1792 who went to Austria to learn distilling and never left because he fell in love with a lady from Klagenfurt. From 1832 he made brandy and liqueurs. When the Inländer Rum was invented (by a pharmacist), STROH was one of the many distillers who enriched the basic recipe with their own secret ingredients. That original recipe is kept in a safe and is still in production.
