The Mangalica pig originates from Zuidwolde in Drenthe. Mangalica pigs have a finely curled woolly coat, making them particularly suitable for the Dutch climate. The wool protects them against wind and snow, but also against the sun in summer. The pigs forage for their own food and live on fodder crops grown in the immediate vicinity, such as greens and grain. The pigs convert locally grown feed into flavorful, marbled meat. Their diet has a positive impact on fat quality, with many unsaturated fatty acids, resulting in a distinctive taste. The meat is tender, juicy, and finely textured.
