Lagavulin 8 years old is an 8-year-old Islay single malt from the Lagavulin distillery. The reason for an 8-year-old bottling dates back to 1880. At that time, one of the most famous and highly regarded whisky journalists of the era decided to visit the island of Islay and on the spot, he chose to sample an 8-year-old Lagavulin. The gentleman was so impressed that he described the single malt as “exceptionally fine” and confirmed the high reputation that Lagavulin had already acquired by then. Today, we find a replica of this whisky. Aged in refill bourbon cask and bottled at 48%.
Nose: soft with clear, fresh notes, subtle hints of milk chocolate and lemon – development of tea-like smoke alongside dry maritime aromas.
Taste: a typical and full Lagavulin flavor with notes of roasted oak, dark chocolate, and a hint of mint.
Finish: clear, long, and smoky with a minty smoke, chocolate, tannins, and warmth.
