The wine region Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a pebble soil, with large cobblestones in most parts. At Domaine la Barroche, we also find a sandy red clay top layer under the stones and limestone beneath. This soil is very well-draining. The roots can penetrate deeply. Pebbles absorb the sun's heat well and cool down slowly at night. The grapes that grow here produce exceptional wines with a lot of finesse.
