LBV stands for Late Bottled Vintage and is developed as an alternative to Vintage port for more relaxed and informal occasions. Like Vintage, LBV is a port of very high quality from a single year. Unlike Vintage Port, which is bottled after two years in wood, LBV is bottled after four to six years and is ready to drink when bottled. The wines used to produce Fonseca LBV come from a reserve of some of the best full-bodied red Ports produced during the harvest. The LBV is aged in large wooden vats and then bottled without any filtration. The result is a naturally expressive wine that has sacrificed none of its depth and fullness of flavor. Decant this port before serving. Deep purple-black in color with an impressive depth. Dark berry fruit interspersed with licorice and dark chocolate. A powerful and uncompromising unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage retaining every aroma and flavor.
