The Dokwerker is a Baltic Porter. A pure and artisanal beer with bold and soft sides. It contains notes of coffee and cocoa. The Dokwerker has been voted the best beer in the Northern Netherlands. A Baltic Porter is a variant of the stout, with a full malt flavor of brown beer and a roasted but not burnt taste. Because this beer used to have to make a long sea voyage, a lot of hops are added. Hops keep the beer longer. The Porter is a dark beer, brewed with roasted malt, so always a note of coffee and dark chocolate. The story goes that the porters at the harbors used to always carry a hip flask of dark beer with a lot of carbohydrates. They were paid per load they carried, so they didn't have to take a lunch break. The Baltic variant generally has slightly more alcohol, a fuller flavor, and a sweeter aftertaste.
