These famous cookies made from sugar, apricot kernels, and egg white are delicious with coffee or used in desserts.
Amaretti cookies originally come from Saronno, a place in the Lombardy region, in the north of Italy. According to legend, the cookies were first made at the beginning of the 18th century by a young couple when the cardinal from Milan paid an unexpected visit to Saronno. The couple made these cookies from sugar, egg white, spices, and ground apricot or almond kernels and packaged them in pairs as a symbol of their love.
