The Mechelen cuckoo earns its place among the better meat chickens. In Belgium, this chicken is even part of the Belgian culinary heritage. The Mechelen cuckoo is a slow-growing free-range chicken (at least ten weeks old) and is raised with 100% plant-based grain feed. In its final weeks, the cuckoo receives extra buckwheat and milk powder, which gives the meat a lot of flavor. The meat is fine-fibered, tender, and juicy. Additionally, it is very low in fat, making it suitable for a variety of preparations at a high culinary level.
