Skrei is a winter cod. The name skrei comes from the Norwegian word skreid (wanderer) and refers to the long journey this fish makes every year. The adult winter cod travels great distances from the Arctic Circle to the Lofoten in Norway to spawn. It is the only place in the world where skrei spawns and also the only location where this cod can be caught. Due to spawning, the catch is subject to very strict regulations to maintain healthy fish stocks. Skrei has firm and flavorful flesh and can be prepared in many ways.
