Mussels are seafood with a salty and fresh-sweet taste. They are a source of minerals, phosphorus, iron, and vitamins. A mussel can be prepared in various ways. They can be consumed raw, but mussels are also very tasty when baked, boiled, or fried. The Zeeland mussels come from the Dutch waters in Zeeland.
These bottom culture mussels are available from mid-July to mid-April. The mussel seed for bottom culture mussels is sown on so-called mussel plots. The young mussels attach themselves to collectors that lie on the ground in these plots. As the mussels grow larger, they are moved to other plots where they can continue to grow until they are suitable for consumption. This takes about two years. These mussels are of the quality of 50 to 60 pieces per kilo.
