Cafe 't Smalle Drinken in the Jordaan in Amsterdam has a special history. On the site of the current cafe, Pieter Hoppe started a liqueur and gin distillery in 1780. Hoppe's distillery became increasingly well-known and years later established itself in Schiedam for capacity and logistical reasons. Hoppe Jenever grew into one of the Netherlands' most famous jenevers and is popular far beyond our borders. Hoppe Jonge Jenever is originally an Amsterdam gin that is still made in a traditional way. Malt wine is mixed with the distillates of juniper berries. As a result, this jenever has a nice, lightly spicy taste.
