Loch Lomond Signature is a luxury blended whisky, which after a long slow maturation, is further conditioned in a 100 barrel Solera vat. The Solera system combines Oloroso Sherry casks and American oak casks that have been re-charred to create the intensity and suppleness that makes Loch Lomond unique.
Very aromatic, 'fortified wine'-style nose. Full rich sultanas with subtle, wine-like hints of sherry. Not too powerful, but clear and direct. An almost smoky character appears as the dark fruit tones fade. A surprisingly malty firm palate. This structure is maintained, but with layers of ripe pear with cinnamon, ginger, and hints of brown sugar, each appearing in turn as the palate further develops. Light hints of dried fruits round it off. The effect and quality of the maltiness is chewy. In the finish, the hints of dried fruits almost give a tone of blackcurrants, which contracts the sweetness, but it is also tempered towards the end by notes of lemony tartness.
