Gin Mare is a particularly flavorful gin from Spain that gives you a sense of escape. The chapel where Gin Mare is now distilled once stood on a quiet beach in Vilanova i la Geltrú, where sailors would pray for a safe voyage. When tourism from Barcelona began to increase in the early 1800s, the chapel had to be dismantled. However, the priests decided to rebuild the chapel further up in the mountains. Stone by stone, the chapel was taken down and then rebuilt in its original state. Around 1950, the chapel was purchased by the Giró Ribot family, and since 2007 they have been distilling their beloved Gin Mare here, each botanical distilled separately. Gin Mare is a true Mediterranean gin. The botanicals are each sourced from countries around the Mediterranean Sea. The Arbequina olives, juniper berries, and citrus fruits come from Spain, the rosemary and coriander seeds from Greece, the thyme from Turkey, and the basil from Italy. With these botanicals, you are completely immersed in Mediterranean atmospheres.
