It all began in 1263. Colin of Kintail, head of the Clan Mackenzie, saved the life of King Alexander III when he was attacked by a 12-point stag. Colin shouted "Cuidich 'n' Righ" which means "save the king" in Gaelic as he rushed towards the stag and speared it in the forehead. As a reward, the brave hero was allowed to use The Royal Stag's Head as the family crest from then on. That legend was linked to The Dalmore in 1867, the year the distillery was sold to the Mackenzie family. Since then, the stag's head with the 12-point antlers and this whisky have been inextricably linked. The Dalmore distillery has special stills, with a rare internal cooling technique, the so-called "Victorian cooling jacket". It is one of the reasons why the whisky has such a beautiful full body. The casks used for The Dalmore whiskies are hand-selected by master blender Richard Paterson.
