Kahlúa comes from a mountainous area around Veracruz in Mexico. The drink originated in 1930. The name Kahlúa means 'House of the Acolhua people'. This language was spoken in Veracruz before the Spanish conquest. Kahlúa is brown in color and smells wonderfully of coffee. The taste of Kahlúa is characterized by notes of bittersweet coffee beans, tones of roasted chestnuts, hints of black coffee, and accents of butter. Sugarcane and 100% Arabica coffee beans result in a flavor as rich and as diverse as the vibrant multicultural region from which it originates. The process of growing and harvesting the coffee beans to bottling takes a total of seven years.
This Mexican coffee liqueur can be drunk neat, with ice, or as an ingredient in cocktails.
