The Macallan 18 Years Double Cask is part of the Double Cask series, in which the whisky matures in two types of casks. For this 18-year-old Macallan, a mix of American and European oak is used. Some of the casks previously held sherry for a short time before being used to mature this whisky. The use of different types of oak forms the basis of the exceptionally well-balanced character of The Macallan 18 Double Cask.
Tasting Notes
Dried fruit opens on the nose, surrounded by layers of ginger and toffee. Rich, fruity hints complement this, while notes of clove and nutmeg are also present. Rich sherry influences fill the palate: raisins, fruit, and spices. Hints of vanilla, ginger, oak, and citrus zest provide a flavorful balance. The finish is long and warming, with hints of ginger and fruit.
