Combine the exotic of India and the raw indigenous of the Black Forest and you get Monkey 47. The story behind this premium gin takes you back to the period just after World War II. Montgomery Collins saw the destruction that the war had caused and decided to help with the reconstruction of Germany. One project was helping a zoo and specifically helping Max, a monkey. Collins started a guesthouse in the Black Forest called 'Zum wilden Affen' (The Wild Monkey). Here he made distillates based on ingredients from the Black Forest and with them his own gin. Years later, a box was found containing photos and Collins' original gin recipe. In 2008, this recipe with 47 different herbs and spices was revived and named after Max. The gin is distilled with spring water and has a spicy bite due to the different types of peppers that Monkey 47 is rich in. This spicy gin is perfect for a gin and tonic.
