Craftsmanship, sustainability, and tradition - Michael Frank and his parents Erwin and Marie-José rely on these three skills. In managing their vineyards on the southern Weinmosel and Saar. On 34 hectares of vineyards, the demanding manual work on the steep slopes and the organic, sustainable fertilization of the soil form the basis for wines with a lot of character and aroma. Along the slate slopes by the Saar, between the mouth of the Saar and the Ockfen, the high altitude ensures a mild climate, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop a lot of aroma. The slate soil, enriched with iron minerals, delivers its nutrients to the vine through the roots and gives the wines a 'somewhat mineral' aroma, also known as "Schiefernote". The long, traditional history of the winery began in 1868. Founded as an inn with colonial goods trade and viticulture, the winery grew and developed steadily. More than 100 years later, it was expanded in 1995 with the purchase of the Donatushof, where the current headquarters of the company is located. Since 2003, Michael Frank has continued the long tradition of his family with his commitment to quality and sustainability.
