The “Ürziger Würzgarten” is internationally regarded as a specialty among the Mosel locations. It is one of the steepest locations in the Middle Mosel and therefore enjoys a very long exposure to sunlight. It consists of red sandstone and slate soil, resulting in a very special character with lush, spicy, fruity aromas and a particularly full body. 100% of our vines are ungrafted, often very old vines (50 – 70 years). Even in very dry years, they manage to extract water and nutrients from the depths of the soil. The slate slope offers another important advantage in fairly wet periods: rain and moisture quickly seep into the ground but are prevented by the many stones from forming gullies and washing away the soil. Erosion and waterlogging are foreign words here. This combination of medium to deep, very stony slate soils and a pure southern location with intense sunlight leads to a wine that is unique in the world with a full, fruity character and an intense mineral finish.
