Capers are the unopened flower buds of the caper plant. This is a low, wide shrub with branches with thorns. The plant produces beautiful white flowers that are followed by berries with kidney-shaped seeds. The caper plant is cultivated in countries with a Mediterranean climate, such as in France, Spain, and Italy, but also in Western Asia. Ideal for use in salads or to be incorporated into dishes like steak tartare. The non pareil capers are the smallest capers available, full of flavor and have a nice texture.
