Munster A.O.P. is a washed rind cheese originating from the French Alsace. This cheese is recognizable by its pungent smell. The cheese is also known as 'stinky cheese'. A rich, spicy flavor with a creamy, slightly tangy aftertaste is typical of the Munster ermitage. This flavor is partly derived from the raw milk with which the cheese is made. Munster ermitage is mainly eaten as a dessert cheese.
