White Oak is the first distillery in Japan where whisky was produced. Although founded in 1888, the company received the first official license to distill alcohol in 1919. Since 1984, White Oak has been located at its current site and is thus the only Japanese whisky distillery situated on the coast, in Akashi, Hyogo, just west of Kobe. The maritime influence and the significant difference between summer and winter temperatures give the whiskies their typical flavor profile: soft, balanced, and refined, yet with character.
