This Vannamei shrimp is also known as whiteleg shrimp. The animal is now widely farmed in, among other places, Asia and South America. Many farmers have switched from black tiger to vannamei because they grow faster and can have more volume in a pond. The shrimp has a firm texture and a mild flavor. For these headless shrimp, the back is incised so they are easy to peel after preparation. These shrimp are packed 21 - 25 pieces in an English pound (454 grams).
