Maple syrup, delicious sap from the maple tree. Native Americans were the first to discover maple syrup or sinzibuckwud. This means 'drawn from wood' in Algonquian. Maple syrup is a sweet syrup made from the sap of the maple tree. During the winter period, these trees often store sugar in their roots, which flows upward with the sap through the xylem in the spring. To harvest the syrup, maple producers drill a hole with a diameter of 1cm and 5cm deep. After this, the maple farmer places a pipe through which the sap flows into a kettle.
