The originally French Charentais melon is famous for its sweet taste and aroma. Initially, they were mainly 'lisse' (smooth) varieties, these have now been replaced by the 'écrit' (slightly more ribbed), which gives a much stronger melon, especially for shelf life. Additionally, this variety is better resistant to the more humid weather conditions around the Mediterranean. The skin is light green with dark green stripes and the flesh is bright orange and very juicy. The melons belong to the 'Cantaloupe' melons. The juicy melon has an exotic scent and is, for example, delicious as a starter with cured ham.
