"Alchermes Liquore" is a herbal liqueur with Italian-Arabic roots, produced by Lazzaroni & Figli since the mid-19th century. According to legend, the liqueur originated in Florence during the rule of the Medici family and is therefore also known in France as "Liqueur de Medici." Various ingredients, including vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, mace, clove, anise blossom, orange peel, and rose water, give the liqueur its flavor. The red color is obtained by adding the dye kermes, which is also used to color food. This fact ultimately gives the liqueur its name: "Alchermes" comes from the Arabic term "al-quirmiz" and refers to the dye.
