Maison Ferrand, the award-winning producer of Cognac, Gin, and Rum, is located in the heart of Cognac, France. It all began in the year 1775, when Louis XVI granted two Frenchmen permission to open a Genièvre distillery next to the Citadel in Dunkirk. Thanks to an abundance of spices from the Far East, the two were able to perfectly produce Genièvre, also known as Gin. The enterprise stopped fairly quickly until in 1989 Alexandre Gabriel (Maison Ferrand) used the methods and recipes to make Genièvre Citadelle. The recipe of Citadelle Original dates back to 1771 and is a quadruple-distilled London Dry Gin bottled at 44% alcohol. On the nose, you discover scents of fresh flowers, such as jasmine and honeysuckle, and of course juniper. The palate offers anise, citrus, and cinnamon with a hint of pepper. The juniper is still present. The finish is lightly spicy.
