In the second half of the seventeenth century, the fashionable spa town of Spa was frequently visited by nobles, diplomats, writers, and artists. The monks of the Capuchin order selected dozens of aromatic plants, barks, and herbs and distilled a splendid liqueur with them: fine in taste and with a soft scent. The liqueur also strengthened the stomach and stimulated digestion. No wonder Elixir de Spa quickly became popular at home and abroad and received countless awards. Even the oldest Royal Warrant (1869) is in the name of this unique drink. During the French Revolution, the Capuchin library and the recipe were almost lost, but a book buyer found the manuscript completely intact. Today, the authentic Elixir de Spa has been made for decades at FX de Beukelaer and bottled in beautiful bottles. Its incomparable taste and particularly elegant aroma combine wonderfully with numerous ingredients.
