After the year 2003, which was marked by spring frost and a heatwave, the 2004 harvest is considered by many in Champagne to be a miracle. A record harvest and an exceptionally high level of quality have given this vintage extraordinary characteristics. Among the best terroirs of Champagne, the fantastic Clos Pompadour is capable of elevating the finest harvests. A careful selection of the best grapes from the three Champagne grape varieties, which, thanks to a pure chalk soil and a microclimate created by the traditional walls surrounding this Clos, reach perfect ripeness, has enabled the winemakers of the Maison to preserve and enhance the minerality of the wines from this remarkable location. It was necessary to wait almost 15 years in the cellars before this cuvée could fully develop. Fifteen years during which the components of the wine and those of the yeasts slowly underwent their alchemy, allowing us today to taste a champagne of incredible complexity. With a radiant brilliance, a pale golden color with crystalline reflections invites tasting. On the nose, this cuvée reveals extraordinary finesse. The first notes recall toasted brioche, hawthorn blossom, and linden blossom. As the wine opens up, it becomes more complex, with aromas of citrus fruits and spices (kaffir lime, candied ginger). The attack on the palate is straightforward. The mouth is quickly enveloped by an incredible minerality. The impression is silky, almost velvety. Notes of mandarin and white pepper characterize the central element of the tasting with beautiful amplitude. The finish is tense, saline, almost aniseed-like. A hint of yuzu concludes the tasting with infinite length.
