This lightly sparkling red wine is made from the croatina grape, a very old variety that was already mentioned in the Middle Ages. It is one of the most typical expressions of the terroir of Lombardy and Emilia and comes from the area of Rovescala in Oltrepò Pavese. The grape was widely spread throughout Northern Italy and was even cultivated in Veneto and Argentina. In 1967, it was classified in the DOC of Colli Piacentini, which gave this wine great potential. Very expressive but easy to drink, interesting for both wine lovers and experts. Intense and persistent aroma with hints of wild violets, cherry, mixed berries, floral notes of acacia, white flowers, and spices like black pepper. Full, mouth-filling, soft with a round finish and pleasantly structured tannins, fresh and savory. Versatile and surprising wine that perfectly matches with appetizers featuring typical Oltrepò Pavese cold cuts, savory pies, pasta with sauces, traditional Oltrepò tortelli, main courses like meat stews, grilled meats, medium-aged cheese, omelets, and spicy dishes like Livorno-style Cacciucco.
