The legend of Tokaj flourished over its four-hundred-year history, but it was not until 1630 that the greatness of the Oremus vineyard was first mentioned. Today, it is the most renowned vineyard in the world.
The production of Aszú wine (noble rot wine) is a meticulous process that can only take place in exceptional harvest years and under special conditions that promote the development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). The wine has been made in the same way for hundreds of years, with three baskets (puttonyos) of 25 kg Aszú noble berries added to a Gönci barrel (136 liters) of must. The Aszú berries are soaked for several hours until they swell and are then gently pressed. Fermentation, which takes place in new Hungarian oak barrels, is a slow process that can last up to four weeks. The wine then matures for two years in 220- and 350-liter barrels, followed by another year in bottle.
Aszú 3 Puttonyos is elegant and fresh, with acidity that makes it a lively and velvety wine.
The 2018 vintage is marked by overripeness, with floral and fruity aromas. The Botrytis fungus is noticeably less present than usual in Tokaj.
