Shiraz (formerly known as "Hermitage") is an important part of the history of Coonawarra. The recognized reputation of Coonawarra for age-worthy wines is largely based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Shiraz blends. However, in the early history (in the 1890s), the focus was on other grape varieties – in particular Shiraz.
Today, Wynns has the privilege of cultivating Shiraz in many prime locations within Coonawarra. These vineyards each have their own stories and a history of quality. The Old Vines Shiraz is selected from the oldest of these vineyards, including the Undoolya vineyard, a rare remnant of the original plantings from the 1890s, planted between 1894 and 1987.
With a classic medium body and a fine, silky mouthfeel, Wynns ‘Old Vines’ Shiraz is a beautiful example of the cool-climate style of Coonawarra.
